(Kinky Kong was too crowded), afterwards saw Chapel where Papadiamantis used to sing, sat opposite Stoa Attalou and talked about Papadiamantis’ story of the neyzen @ Thisseion.
Sunday, 23.3: Coffee at Dexameni Lykavittou, discussion about black and white, the notion of “nothing”, Alexandros Mistriotis joins and gives short exposition on Pseudo-Dionysious Aeropagites and the notion of “grade” vs. “substance” in the realm of angels vs. the physical world, also in states of clarity vs. intoxication. Then about Cycladic culture and its mysterious human-centered cult as suggested by surviving effigies (scuptures). Afterwards Alexandros about CICV in France. Evening: Visit the light-sound-projection control room of A+O where Stathis explained principles of vvvv, and his work for the show. In the meanwhile: Downloaded Elephants Dream, an “open source animation film” made with Blender3D and other open source tools.
Architectural Association Inc. More examples of Architecture as inspiration and Architecture inspired by the possibilities of computing algorithms and making 3 d or 4 d spaces from them. See student projects for 2007, for example, select Unit of Progremme “INT 2″ under the projects page to see a series of projects for the “Bedford Pavilion”. This is from a study unit entitled “INT 2″ (Intermediate 2?). The other units are equally worth browsing. For example here is the blog for “Intermediate 3″: http://www.aainter3.net/.
Received from Nikos Palamaris via twitter on Thursday; March 6, 2008: 7:03 AM after a class on Design Patterns and Pattern Languages: Design and the Elastic Mind. Rather impressive page entirely in Flash, with lots of text and graphics and photos flying over it. So is Flash going to replace html or what? Nikos is a fan of StumbleUpon.
Inspired by walks in Corfu, a visit to the New Venetian Fortress and discussions about the idea of Labyrinth, Tereza Bílová, ERASMUS exchange student from Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Czech Republic, proposed to create an video and interactive piece based on the work of John Amos Comenius (Jan Amos Komensky), The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart. A team is being formed with George Überall, also a student from Tomas Bata University, and Ömer Hajiserif, Vassilis Charmanis, 3d year students at AVARTS and others. Ömer and Vassilis will do the sound design. The work will be based on video and sound recordings made in the Old Town of Corfu, which reminds Tereza of a Labyrinth.
The plan is to show this work in the spaces of the New Venetian Fortress of Corfu.
Marinos Koutsomichalis, mailed sc-users on 16 February asking for people wanting to contribute tutorials for a SuperCollider workshop in Athens. Gavriil Panayotidis thought it was Marinos Giannoukakis, which resulted in a funny misunderstanding: us asking each other who was organizing the workshop! Anyway, glad for this initiative in Athens, I mailed Marinos K offering to contribute. His website is: Anchivatein. I like the text on “anchivatein“, and the photos. I am downloading the music now.
Kostas Chorianopoulos was appointed Lecturer at the Informatics Department of the Ionian University. This semester he is also teaching Web Art and Computer Art at the Department of Audiovisual Arts.
Another interesting greek person, currently abroad … in Atlantic and in … ubiquity: Vassilis Kostakos.
Dimitris Soumelidis just finished and pubished the website of imedia-lab: http://imedia.ionio.gr/~imedialab/index.php/research

There are some quite powerful tools for creating Flash (and Javascript) dynamically from code, without having to install the Flash compiler of Micromedia/Adobe:
- haXe: OOP language for creating xml/javascript/flash
- swfmill: Compiles ? into swf flash files. http://swfmill.org/
- Alternatives for haXe/neko are:
I recommend haXe/neko over Flash MX - much more transparent and focussed for my tastes. Did not try ruby approach. haXe is pretty much optimized for web deployment of rich media, so it seems a better choice.
P.S. Question: What is FITC about? http://www.fitc.ca/about.cfm
P.P.S. Interesting example of Adobe Hydra effect. “Stained Glass”: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pixelero/2192754476/
P.P.P.S. Quartz Composer?
